Blast Protein By Cammie Edwards

I chose to look up a keratin protein, I thought it would be interesting since I know we have keratin in our hair and nails, but I wanted to see somewhere else it was in. The exact keratin protein I looked at was "keratin, partial [Paralichthys olivaceus] BAB16373.1", which is more commonly known as an olive flounder. It looks much different than our hair or nails so I thought it would be a good choice to see how different it might be.

The amino acid sequence is:

1 knqreleawl qtqseslske vavktevlqt tkaeisdlrr tmqnleielq sqlsmkaale

61 gtlsdtecry smqlqslqiq vtsleeqlmq lradmerqnq eynilldikt rlemeiaey

The first ten amino acids translate to "Lysine, Asparagine, Glutamate, Arginine, Glutamic Acid, Leucine, Glutamic Acid, Alanine, Tryptophan, Leucine".

The nucleotide sequence that codes for this protein is:

1 aagaaccaga gagaacttga agcctggctc cagacacagt cagagtcgct gagcaaggag 61 gtggcagtca agacagaagt tctccaaacg accaaggcag aaatctctga cctccgtcgc 121 acaatgcaga acctggagat cgagctgcag tctcaactta gcatgaaagc ggcactggaa 181 ggaacgttgt cagacacaga gtgtcgttac tccatgcagc tccaaagcct ccagatacag 241 gtgacgagcc tggaagaaca gctgatgcag ctgcgtgccg acatggagcg ccagaaccaa 301 gagtacaaca tcctgctcga catcaagaca cggctggaga tggaaattgc agaataca
