PDCD1 PROTEIN BLAST by Mackenzie Whittall
Cancer is unfortunately common in my family, and I have read previously about how cancer cells have the ability to avoid apoptosis, or "programmed cell death." Apoptosis emerged as an "irreversible process to efficiently eliminate dysfunctional cells," (Genentech USA, Inc [date unknown]) which could be extremely helpful in cancer treatments. I selected the protein PDCD-1 (Accesion: APS85787), or "Programmed cell death protein 1.” PDCD-1 promotes apoptosis in antigen-specific T-cells and reduces apoptosis in regulatory T-cells which ultimately inhibits the immune system and prevents autoimmune diseases. Unfortunately this can also keep the immune system from getting rid of cancer cells.
The PDCD-1 source for the following information is relating to Sarcophilus harrisii, also known as a Tasmanian devil, as the nucleotide for PDCD-1 in Homo sapiens was not available.
The amino acid sequence that codes for PDCD-1 is:

The first ten amino acids from this sequence (mvkteytlgf) are as follows:
Methionine-Valine-Lysine-Threonine-Glutamic acid-Tyrosine-Threonine-Leucine-Glycine-Phenylalanine

Magnificent post Makenzie. Cancer runs in my family too, and my mom is an awesome cancer survivor. It soothes my heart to know that there might be new ways to treat cancer. Thank you for sharing this information.
